Carving above the entrance to Sainte-Foy abbey-church depicting on the left of the picture the rewards awaiting the good and on the right, the punishments the bad could look forward to. It served as a visual warning to the illiterate mediaeval villagers who had to pass the church every day, to stay on the straight and narrow!!
